Just a quick reminder... Artistic improvement takes practice, and a long time. Keep at it!

Just remember...
-Keep at it.
-Design characters you love and that interest you.
-Let your characters grow and develop. Give them personality and character.
-Try new things.
-Act on those odd artistic urges every now and then, be it a character design out of left field or even the dreaded fetish art.
-Learn from the mistakes you will inevitably make.
And above all... Don't be afraid to share what you've created. There will always be "haters" and "trolls", but if you stay in your own little bubble, you'll quickly stagnate.

Quite true of any type of artistic endeavor.

For example: I've been using my time away from the internet to try and flesh out my character Ryktor (AKA: JR, Jason Riktor [former names, I decided to drop the "Jason" and respell "Riktor" and leave it more ambiguous as to the exact nature of the name]). more. I've grown rather attached to the scroungy coyote gunslinger that I had intended as a no-name throw-away badguy for another character to have killed... I still don't have a solid handle on his full abilities, but things are falling into place since I've been getting back into Skyrim, the Borderlands games, and have picked up The Wolf Among Us and Fallout New Vegas, and even a little Mortal Kombat. I'm leaning toward having him utilize a similar method of creating weapons to the "Bound Sword/Bow/Axe/Dagger" spells from skyrim and Nightwolf's more rapid/readily handy creation method. This sort of set-up lends itself more readily to people not seeing him as a threat until they're staring down the barrels of a spectral Nock Gun or trying to dodge a volley of arrows made out of fire. Ryktor has become an embodiment of the part of me that gets kicked around enough in daily life to galvanize the will to survive.
The point of this little addition: Don't be afraid to salvage/re-purpose/retool/overhaul characters. Given a chance, they might just grow on you and help you explore the depths of your own mind.
